Travel – Amsterdam

I’ve been to Amsterdam twice now and randomly both times with My Mum! This time it was myself, Mum and Dad. The last time was a very brief visit on a 3 week tour back in 2012 so i was keen to explore some more and get a real feel for Amsterdam.

While the weather was certainly warmer than Ireland where we had just left, It was a bit unpredictable and it rained quite a bit. We didn’t let that dampen our moods too much and we took to wandering and discovering what Amsterdam was about. We stayed quite close to the main station which was also walking distance to all the main sights. We did a walking tour to learn a bit of history and get our bearings, wandered around the canals, visited the iconic I Am Amsterdam sign and ate alot of food! I love how everyone bikes everywhere, although I don’t like how you have to be so careful and have several near misses each day! The architecture is so iconic to Amsterdam along the canals and for the most part dutch people are very friendly and boy are the guys easy on the eye haha.

Mum and I also squeezed in a day trip to Utrecht to see a bit more of the Netherlands since neither of us will be back for a long time. It was cool to get out of the city and wander around another with no plan. While the first time we went to Amsterdam was a touristy first time experience of red-light district, canal cruises etc this time was a bit more slow paced and informational. I rather enjoyed myself!
