London Adventures – Waitangi Day Pub Crawl

Hi Everyone! Hope your week is going well :) Last weekend was a public holiday (or bank holiday if your British!) back home in New Zealand. It is the day the treaty was signed between the Maori’s and, well, the white folk. It was a long weekend back home, but here in London it was not. However, as the British seem to love us Kiwi’s for around the last 30 years there has been a Waitangi Day Pub Crawl in London. Basically thousands of Kiwi’s (and various other expats) descend upon London dressed up in various Kiwi paraphernalia, drinking and walking or tubing along the circle line. The crawl culminates in a Haka   in Parliament Square then there are various after partys (4 this year!). It was a crazy, fun-filled day that’s for sure!

Check out some photos of the crawl below. I was SOOOOO hungover on the Sunday but it was worth it for such a fun day. Can’t wait to do it again next year!

Breakfast before the chaos, toast with avo, tomatoes, topped with eggs and chia seeds

First drink of the day on the crawl!

I saw people dressed as Harold from the Life Education bus so had to get a pic!

Playing cricket in the street – as you do!

Obligatory police photo – the police are great about the crawl which is cool.

Not quite the NZ flag but close enough!

My mate dressed up as Helen Clark - epic!

Random guy in random porn phone booth!

Kiwis dressed up as penguins for Bluebird ships, L&P, buzzy bees, sheep etc (picture from Google)

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the Haka as there were way too many people, it was a sea. I didn’t dress up either as too poor, didn’t have the time and still don’t now THAT many kiwis here! We went to an after party and then my memory gets hazy haha.

Are you a Kiwi in London? Have you done the Waitangi Day Pub Crawl?
